The Girls

Life has a funny way of bringing us full-circle sometimes.
When I started college, I imagined graduating with that close group of girls that meet up year after year and grow old together, share life’s joys and sorrows.
I spent four or five years searching for the right group. I was always out, always busy at one event or another and I hated the scene just as much as I craved it.
When I graduated, I looked back and thought, “Huh. I guess that was it. Not exactly what I expected.”
Here’s what I’ve learned: If you want to find something, you need to stop looking for it.
Since my first year of college, I have had those women just a phone call away. When I was running out the door, they were inviting me to run on over. But I could never find the time.
Last night, we all met up for dinner with husbands, fiancés, and boyfriends to talk about moving across the world, new houses, daily living, and upcoming weddings.
Have you ever felt the humility of realizing that what you set off to find was with you the whole time?
I am blessed. Blessed to have my group of girls to grow old with. Blessed that they were so patient while I figured out where I needed to be. Blessed that we are all so excited for the changes in our lives and accepting of the people we’ve brought in over the years.
I don’t think you can ever let people know how much they mean to you after something like that…
But I’m going to spend the rest of my life trying to show them.

Back into Wedding Mode

I cannot stop flipping through my planner at work!

My weekends are filling to the brim with exciting events and things to do. I have a feeling my wedding day is going to be here before I know it! And because of that, I used today to kick myself back into gear. I sent some e-mails, scheduled some appointments, and picked up our wedding bands. They’re beautiful. I’m so glad Fred chose to work with Metal Art Studio; it’s like stopping by to see our friends!

I’m convinced that my heart has started pumping faster with anticipation. Man, I am too excited to be Freddy’s wife! His wife – are you hearing that?!?

It still doesn’t seem real.

And then there are times when I’m working myself up over the planning decisions we’ve made or haven’t made and feeling like I just want to start over with everything when Freddy calmly reminds me that we’ve carefully chosen every detail so far so that our wedding can be a reflection of who we are as a couple – and then it feels real. And right.

Very right.

75 days and a day off

There are 75 days until Freddy and I tie the knot. In honor of our 75 day countdown (but really because I was supposed to be on an airplane coming back from a wedding today), I took the day off.

So far, I have used my day to duff. I cleaned up around the apartment, paid some bills, and filed paperwork. I went to the recycling center and picked up some groceries.

There’s something satisfying about taking a day off of work when you’ve nothing pressing to do. I’d suggest it to anyone. Especially those of you who tell me that some day I’ll never find a way to take all of my vacation days.

Yes I will. I’ll just take another nothing day.

There you are, you sneak!

Mother Nature didn’t know I had plans to be productive today so she sent a rain storm.

You might as well go along with Mother Nature when she decides to slow the pace on you like that.

So here I am:

Tunic and leggings with hair that’s been rain-soaked and air-dried. Hot chocolate in hand.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Roman Holiday.

For being home, it’s the perfect first day off of the weekend. Many well-wishes, blessings, and happy prayers to my aunt on her wedding day! And a very warm congratulations to my nursing friends who were pinned this morning (including my brilliant sorority little!)!
